Solihulls Super Sea Scouts
16.02.2006
4th Knowle Sea Scout Group have retained their sponsorship by the Royal Navy, and continue to be one of only 101 Groups in the world to be recognised by the Admiralty Board. The Sea Scouts were inspected at their headquarters in Knowle on Wednesday 15th February by Lieutenant Commander Haynes Royal Navy, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Sheila Pittaway.
Lt. Cdr. Haynes spoke to over 100 young people during the evening, and saw the Sea Scouts take part in practical seamanship and communications exercises, leadership tasks, and a presentation about an adventurous canoe expedition in Canada that some of the Sea Scouts are undertaking this summer.
A team of the Sea Scouts had recently returned from the National Sea Scout Swimming Gala at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall, and they even brought some silverware home to Solihull! Sea Scout Sam Timms came first in the under 16 breaststroke final, and Sea Scout Michael Davis came 3rd in the under 12 backstroke final.
At the end of the evening, Lt. Cdr. Haynes announced that the Group had passed the inspection, and would continue to retain their recognition status. 4th Knowle Sea Scout Group was first accepted into the scheme in 2002.
