Sea Scouts return from the International Fleet Review
28.06.2005
Sea Scouts from Solihull have this week returned from the Solent where they took part in the International Fleet Review to mark the 200th anniversary of our victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, and the death of its hero, Admiral Lord Nelson.
The Royal Navy invited 4th Knowle Sea Scout Group to nominate a team to take part in Her Majesty the Queen's historic review of over 150 warships. The 24 Sea Scouts, aged 10 to 18, were accommodated aboard RFA Argus, a hospital and aviation training ship which has seen action all over the world, from the Falklands War, to more recently, Operation TELIC in the Gulf.
The warships, everything from aircraft carriers to patrol boats, anchored in columns at Spithead, and the sea surrounding them was filled with over 5,000 civilian ships, boats and yachts from around the world, all there to see the largest fleet review since 1977.
The Sea Scouts joined with the Ship's Company to give a traditional Royal Navy salute, and cheered as HM The Queen passed them aboard the Antarctic patrol ship, HMS Endurance.
All the Sea Scouts had a great day, which ended with one of largest ever firework displays in Europe.
