All the Queens Scouts

All the Queens Scouts23.02.2008

Buckingham Palace have confirmed this week that three young people from Solihull are to be made Queen's Scouts.

Becoming a Queen's Scout is the highest achievement within the Scout Movement and is conferred through Royal Warrant to several hundred young people aged 16 to 25 each year. The three A Level students, Jenny Hawkin, Sarah Millbanks and Pippa Spencer are all members of Knowle Sea Scout Group.

The honour recognises their many achievements and service to others. All three have completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, undertaken a wilderness expedition in Canada, accrued a range of skills and qualifications, met Scouts from around the world, taken part in community projects, and continue to serve as Scout Leaders.

For St George's Day, the trio will join Queen's Scouts from across the Commonwealth to parade at Windsor Castle and be reviewed by Her Majesty or her deputy. Later in the year they will meet the Chief Scout Peter Duncan to receive their Royal Certificates.

The Royal Certificate is signed by Her Majesty and bears the message: 'As a Queen's Scout you have prepared yourself for service to God and other people, and have shown yourself a worthy member of the world-wide Scout Movement. I wish you God-speed on your journey through life; may it prove for you a joyous adventure'.

Eighteen year old Assistant Scout Leader Pippa Spencer, who joined the Group back in 2001, said, "Its fantastic to hear that we're to be made Queen's Scouts. Being a Scout has given me so many great experiences, its nice to be able to help others enjoy the things I have, and I hope we can inspire them to follow our footsteps. We're all looking forward to April and to hopefully meeting the Queen".
